1980's Las Vegas Fire Results in Fire Code Modifications
Coincidentally, the same location of the deadly MGM Grand fire in 1980, a hotel room fire at Bally's Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday forced few evacuations, but no one was seriously injured. It was reported that the fire originated in a hotel mattress and was contained to one room due to fire sprinklers that were not present when the 1980 MGM Grand fire occurred. Out of 85 total deaths, 80 were due to smoke inhalation. After this tragic incident, the fire code stated that all structure over 55 feet must be retrofitted with fire sprinkler systems.
