Two Brush Fires Burn North Of Los Angeles
Two brush fires burned in hilly terrain north of Los Angeles, California, one closed a couple of lanes on busy Interstate 5, disrupting Friday afternoon traffic. The larger of the two fires burned 40 acres near Santa Clarita and at one time threatened about 30 homes, the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) told KABC-TV. About 200 firefighters, and six water dropping helicopters fought the blaze that was largely extinguished by 4:00 p.m., according to KNBC-TV. The second fire, a two-alarm blaze, burned approximately eight acres near Acton, ten miles east of Santa Clarita, according to the Los Angeles Times. No evacuations were ordered and there was no damage reported in either fire. The cause of both blazes remains under investigation. Author:Barbara Brooks - Fire Department Network News
