2 Memphis Firefighters Injured While Fighting Blaze
The Memphis Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at 4268 McCain Road, Monday, November 14, 2011 at 8:18 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene at 8:23 p.m., firefighters reported fire visible from the one story wood-frame residential structure. Rescue and Firefighting operations began immediately. Fifteen (15) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately thirty-five (35) emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Division Chief H. Posey was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 8:40 p.m. Two (2) firefighters were transported in non critical condition to the Regional Medical Center's Burn Unit. One (1) firefighter sustained minor burns to his hands and face. A second firefighter sustained minor burns to his ears. Both were treated and later released. There were no civilian injuries. The vacant structure sustained smoke, fire and water damage. Total damage is estimated at $18,900 structure and no contents. The origin and cause of the fire was determined to be intentionally set in the interior of the structure. This fire remains under investigation. The Memphis Fire Department urges all citizens to maintain a working smoke detector in their place of residence. Any City of Memphis resident can apply for a free smoke detector by contacting the Fire Museum of Memphis at (901) 320-5650. Always have a plan of escape in case there is a fire.
