2 Pit Bulls Escape El Paso House Fire, No Injuries
On December 14, 2011 at 7:21 am, El Paso Fire Department crews were dispatched at 7:21 a.m. to a house fire at 2524 Porter in El Paso, Texas. Upon arrival, the fire crews classified this as a condition 2 with flames and smoke showing. 9 units arrived on the scene with approximately 27 fire fighters. The fire was extinguished in 10 minutes and the crews were able to confine the fire to the front of the house where the fire originated. No one was home at the time of the incident and two pit bulls that were on the property were not harmed or injured. Preliminary reports were that this was caused by an unattended candle or possible alternative heat or cooking equipment, but after the official investigation was conducted it was labeled as undetermined. Property damage is estimated at $20,000.This is a reminder to the public that leaving candles unattended is a large contributing factor in house fires. Keep in mind that candles are an open flame and can easily ignite anything that may come in contact with it. Always use candle holders that are sturdy, and won’t tip over easily and place candle holders on a sturdy, uncluttered surface, but most importantly never leave a candle burning unattended. Also, never use alternative heating or cooking equipment not intended to be used indoors. For more information on fire safety or fire prevention, please visit our website at www.elpasotexas.gov/fire or call (915) 485-5699.
