20 Major Wildfires Burn Across Southeast Texas
Twenty major wildfires are burning across Southeast Texas with critical fire weather conditions predicted for today. Twelve of those fires began in the last day or so forcing hundreds of people out of their homes on Father's Day and closing I-45 due to thick smoke. Fires are burning in numerous counties. The Dyer Mill fire burning in Grimes County destroyed 26 homes east of Whithall, Texas. The fire in Walker County has grown to 1,600 acres and forced the evacuation of 450 homes and closed a major interstate highway for several hours. Fire officials have requested two Apache helicopters based in San Antonio be sent to help battle the blaze. Author:Barbara Brooks - Fire Department Network News
