2011 Fairfax County, Virginia Career Firefighter of the Year Ceremony

The 2011 Career Firefighter of the Year ceremony will be held in the Massey Building, A-Level Conference Center, Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at 11 a.m. Lieutenant Marc S. Davidson, Fire and Rescue Academy, is the 2011 Career Firefighter of the Year.

A 16-year veteran of the department, Lieutenant Davidson has performed in an outstanding manner throughout his career and has represented the organization, both on and off-duty with distinction. Currently, he serves as an instructor/officer in the Basic Training Unit at the Fire and Rescue Academy, teaching recruits the required skills to become a Firefighter/EMT within the organization. He is also a valued mentor to the recruits as they progress through their 20 weeks of training.

The Firefighter of the Year Award is the department's highest award, established in 1985 to provide special recognition for outstanding service and dedication in keeping with the highest traditions of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. Lieutenant Davidson is the 26th recipient of Firefighter of the Year.

The project, known as FireSite, is using webcams to show firefighters, Incident Commanders and dispatchers a real time, 360 degree view of areas that were previously difficult to view.
