Three Fires In West Tulsa Cause 1 Fatality & 1 Civilian Injury
A fire on November 10, 2011 at 1409 W Admiral Blvd. resulted in the fatality of a 15 month old male child. The fire started around 6:00 am in the back bedroom of a duplex unit. Smoke and flames were coming from the front of the structure when the Tulsa Fire Department arrived. The couple in the west unit escaped unharmed and their unit suffered mainly smoke and water damage. Two of the occupants in the east unit escaped, but the child died in the back bedroom were the fire began. The cause of this fire has not been determined as investigators are continuing to look for the exact cause of this fire. The second blaze was reported about 9:30 am at 827 N Union. The occupants were already at work when the fire started. The fire was accidental and was caused by an overloaded extension cord. There were no injuries but the house was heavily damaged. The third fire in the area began around 10:15 am at 11 N Rosedale, less than a block from the first fire this morning. One male occupant was burnt escaping the building. He was transported to St. Francis in fair condition. The cause of this fire has also been determined as accidental and was also caused by overheating of an extension cord. Fire crews were still on the scene at 1409 W Admiral Blvd and were able to quickly control the fire and limit the damage to the living room and a portion of the attic. The American Red Cross was on scene for all the fires providing assistance and temporary housing for the families affected.
