Boston Fire Department Puts Three New Engines in Service

The Boston Fire Department has put into service three new fire engines. They are Engine 7, working out of the firehouse at 200 Columbus Avenue in Park Square; Engine 33, working out of 941 Boylston Street opposite the Prudential Center and Engine 37, the busiest engine in the city, working out of 560 Huntington Avenue by Wentworth Institute.

These new engines were made by KME out of Pennsylvania after a competitive bid process. Each cost $416,692.00 for a total of $1,250,076.00. 

The engines come with a five year bumper to bumper comprehensive warranty. They also come with Electronic Stability Control, driver and passenger air bags, an on-board computer preventive maintenance system and carry 500 gallons of water.

"My thanks to Mayor Thomas M. Menino for his continued support of our apparatus replacement program. These three engines along with seven other new pieces of apparatus this year, at a total cost of $4,883,418.00, show Mayor Menino's strong commitment to public safety" stated Fire Commissioner Roderick Fraser.

"I would also like to thank the Apparatus Specification Committee for their hard work in all phases of the design and building of our new engines. The systems in place on these engines make them among the safest fire engines being built today" continued Commissioner Fraser.

They will be joined by two new ladder trucks that will be arriving after Labor Day.
