Over 40 Anne Arundel Volunteer Firefighters Recognized at Ceremony

On December 12, 2011, the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association recognized more than 40 Fire Department Volunteers at the Annual Volunteer Firefighters Promotion and Recognition Ceremony. The event was held at the Odenton Volunteer Fire Department and was attended by more than 100 personnel from throughout the County.

The event was kicked off by Mr. Joseph Larsen, President of the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association and Master of Ceremonies for the event. County Fire Chief John Robert Ray and other Department Officials were on hand to speak at the event and congratulate those who were recognized.

Award recipients were treated to dinner prior to the presentation of awards which began about 7:30 p.m. County Executive John R. Leopold and Fire Chief John Robert Ray are proud to honor these Fire Department Volunteers who have chosen a path dedication to duty and service to their community.

CAL FIRE Using Webcams To Assist With Fire Detection and Attack

A new partnership has been formed between the University of California San Diego, CAL FIRE, and San Diego County that is helping CAL FIRE/San Diego County FIre Authority to monitor the rural areas of San Diego, California for wildfires. The project, known as FireSite, is using webcams to show firefighters, Incident Commanders and dispatchers a real time, 360 degree view of areas that were previously difficult to view.
