911 Commemorative Vehicle to be Shown at Fayetteville Fire/Emergency Management Department
New York Fire Department Engine 343 also known as the "Engine Company for the Fallen" will be shown on Wednesday night (9/14/11) from 6-7 pm at City Fire Station 5 located on Boone Trail. Engine 343 is a commemorative Fire Truck restored as a way to honor the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 in the Twin Towers attack. The FDNY Fire Family Transport Foundation, a non-profit support organization that provides transportation to families of injured firefighters, sponsors the vehicle. Engine 343 has local ties. Lt. Jackie Lee of the Fayetteville Fire/Emergency Management Department provided a 1951 Mack Fire truck in near perfect condition to the New York City Fire Department. The fire truck, which was previously located in his barn in Wade NC, was restored and deployed as the "Engine Company for the Fallen". There will also be a special recognition of Lt. Lee and his contribution to the creation of Engine 353. Lt Lee is also a former chief of the Wade Fire Department. Captain John A. Woodall, also accompanying the truck, of the North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Foundation was instrumental in connecting Lt. Lee with the FDNY Fire Family Transport NC. Fund raisers and donations financed the restoration. Engine 343 is stopping over in Fayetteville for one night enroute to an appearance at a Wounded Hero event in South Carolina to benefit severely wounded soldiers. The public is invited to come by and view this historic vehicle. Author:Fayetteville Fire Department Press Release
