Arrest Made in Bloomington High School Fire Ruled Arson

On May 21, 2011 San Bernardino County firefighters responded to an early morning commercial structure fire inside the administrative building at Bloomington High School.  With a quick interior attack, firefighters were able to bring the 2nd alarm blaze under control in about 40 minutes.  Approximately 45 firefighters from San Bernardino County Fire, with assistance from Rialto and Colton Fire, kept the fire contained to the administration offices. 

The interior and content of the building was a complete loss, with early damages estimated at over $400,000. There were no injuries. Bloomington High School is part of the Colton Joint Unified School District. 

On July 6, 2011 at approximately 10:00 am San Bernardino County Fire Investigators at the request of the District Attorney arrested an 18 year old student identified as Jovanny Lua while he attended class at Bloomington High School summer session. Investigator Mendez, from County Fire's Office of the Fire Marshal accompanied by Detective Scovel from San Bernardino County Sheriff's Bomb/Arson unit made the arrest without incident and transported Lua to the Fontana substation for processing.  The cause of the fire has been determined as intentional and possible arson by San Bernardino County Fire Investigators with the assistance of San Bernardino County Sheriff's Arson/Bomb unit. Arson and Burglary charges have been filed in this case.
