Birmingham Firefighters Injured in Motor Vehicle Accident
A wreck in Birmingham, Alabama between a fire engine and a truck sent five people to the hospital Monday afternoon. While responding to a call, Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service collided with a truck owned by Allen Tree Service, according to WJSU-TV. Three firefighters and two other people were taken to UAB Hospital with minor injuries. According to Birmingham fire officials, the crash sent the fire engine down an 80 foot embankment, through some bushes. That line of bushes may have stopped it from ending up on a busy Interstate highway. Birmingham Police told the ABC station the truck driver failed to yield as the fire engine made a left hand turn. The truck was pulling a chipper and may have been too heavy to stop abruptly. "This is possibly the busiest thoroughfare in the state, so it's just a minor miracle that no further cars were involved here or down on the other side of the embankment. We're just fortunate the injuries were non life-threatening," Battalion Chief C.W. Mardis said. Author:Barbara Brooks - FDNNTV.com
