Brooklyn Borough President Donates Van to FDNY Ceremonial Unit
A group of 50 FDNY members execute more than 300 FDNY events each year as part of the Ceremonial Unit. And this hardworking group received its first-ever vehicle on Sept. 28, donated by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz.

"This will be extremely useful to the team, which is instrumental in coordinating so many of our important ceremonies," Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano said during a ceremony outside Brooklyn Borough Hall.

Chief of Department Edward Kilduff added, "This was very classy on the part of Borough President Markowitz, it will no doubt help us represent the Department well, and support our members and their families at numerous ceremonies."

The ceremonial unit is made up of both Fire and EMS members who coordinate everything from promotional ceremonies to line of duty funerals.

Chief Kilduff helped kick start the project when he was Brooklyn Borough Commander for the FDNY, suggesting the idea to the Borough President's Office.

The 12-seat van will be used to transport members as well as the unit's equipment to FDNY events.

"We appreciate the efforts of all those involved," said Lt. Joseph LaPointe, the Commanding Officer of the Ceremonial Unit. "This will certainly be a huge help for us."
