CSFI & NFFF to Co-Sponsor 9-11 Memorial Stairclimb

The Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) will co-sponsor a 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb on April 6th at the Washington Hilton, in Washington, DC.  The event will be held in conjunction with CFSI's 23rd Annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner and Seminars program.  Registration for the stair climb is now open to members of the fire and emergency services at http://www.9-11stairclimb.com/.

The 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb is one of several such events taking place this year to honor the 343 firefighters who died in the terrorist attacks on 9-11.  The idea for the program originated on September 11, 2005 when a group of five firefighters from Colorado climbed 110 flights of stairs in a high rise building in downtown Denver.  Three years later, the event captured such wide-spread support from local fire departments that the event organizers capped registration at 343 firefighters.

The April 6th stair climb is a modified climb.  Participants will be grouped in teams of five who will twice climb 11 flights, equaling 110 flights - the same number as the World Trade Center Towers.  Participants can register as teams or individually.  This is not a timed event and participants can wear either their turn-out gear (no SCBA's), station gear or work-out gear.  Registration will be limited to the first 343 firefighters, so register now to guarantee a slot.

The theme of the 23rd Annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner is "Remembering Honor, Courage and Sacrifice."  Over 2,000 fire and emergency services leaders from across the country are expected to attend this year's program that will feature a series of seminars and provide opportunities for fire service leaders to meet with federal officials to discuss a broad range of homeland security issues.  The culmination of the two-day program is the Dinner, which will feature addresses from the leaders of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus and award presentations for fire service leadership.
