As of Monday morning, the Canyon Fire burning west of Lake Isabella, California is 100 percent contained. The fire, which began on Sunday, September 12, 2010 burned 9,820 acres and cost a total of $11.25 million to fight, according to InciWeb.

The South Central Sierra Incident Management Team handed control of the fire over to the Sequoia National Forest, the Bureau of Land Management-Bakersfield (BLM), and the Kern County Fire Department (KCFD) which are operating in a Unified Command, according to the KCFD.

Approximately 150 firefighters from the US Forest Service (USFS), BLM and the KCFD along with three helicopters will remain on scene for several more days to make sure all hot spots are fully extinguished, according to InciWeb.

The Canyon Fire forced evacuations of many recreational sites along the Lower Kern River as well as residences in the Bodfish and Havilah communities.

Light smoke may still be visible in the area for several more days.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
