Central & Santa Cruz Fire Departments Respond to Arana Gulch Brush Fire
Santa Cruz Firefighters from station 2 responded to a report of a smoke column in the Arana Gulch area between the harbor and Soquel Ave on August 18, 2011. Central Fire Protection's Battalion Chief as well as Santa Cruz City's Battalion Chief responded as well. Due to the location of the smoke column it took a few minutes to determine the best location to gain access. Access to the area off the upper harbor entrance proved to be the best choice. Fire units arrived to find a slow moving fire about a quarter acre in size burning in a mixture of grass, brush and trees. Santa Cruz Central's Brush Rig with 4 wheel drive capabilities and a 500 gallon water tank was used as well as hand tools to surround and extinguish the fire. The fire is currently under investigation but considered suspicious at this time. There were no injuries reported. Author:Santa Cruz Fire Department Press Release
