Fire Department CPR Program Revamped
The Chino Valley Fire District is revamping its CPR program by offering students the option of taking the first portion of instruction online before taking the hands-on portion at Fire Station 62. The new approach allows the Fire District to offer potentially lifesaving information to the public in a fiscally responsible manner while affording students the flexibility of studying at their own pace when it is convenient for them. Students have the option of taking an online class in CPR and AED (Part I) for $35 or First Aid with CPR and AED (Part I) for $50. Once the first portion is completed, students have 60 days to complete the hands on portion (Part II) at Fire Station 62, located at 5551 Butterfield Ranch Road in Chino Hills. Classes are offered the third Thursday of every month. There have been several benefits to the new model since it was established. The online component gives students a convenient alternative to traditional classroom without any scheduling delays. It also offers students the flexibility to complete online modules at home or work at their own pace. Once students have completed the course, they are able to access the program for up to 12 months after initial completion in order to refresh skills learned. Onsite instruction time is reduced from four to six hours to anywhere between 45 minutes to an hour. The Fire District is committed to offering these potentially lifesaving classes to the community.
