Chino Valley Fire District Discovers Antique Firefighting Equipment in District
Chino Valley Fire District firefighters discovered an antique hose cart from the late 1800s or early 1900s in a condemned barn at the Yorba-Slaughter Adobe in Chino, California after a 65-acre vegetation fire burned near the area on September 11, 2010.

Engineer Rich Cramton made contact with the caretakers of the barn after the fire and discovered the antique firefighting equipment in the Adobe. The Adobe site is one of the oldest residences in San Bernardino County and houses only equipment from the local area. Cramton researched the history of the cart and believes it could be the Fire District's original cart. The artifacts inside the Adobe are owned and maintained by the San Bernardino County Natural History Museum.

The Fire District entered into an agreement with the San Bernardino County Natural History Museum that allows the Fire District to remove the hose cart from the condemned barn and display it within the District. As part of the agreement, the hose cart will remain in its original state and be displayed at Fire Station 63, located at 7550 Kimball Avenue in Chino.

The hose cart was removed by Chino Valley Fire District personnel from the Adobe on November 8, 2010 and is being cleaned for display. It is expected to arrive in its new home sometime next week.
