City of Manassas Fire and Rescue Department Promotes Seven Members

Six members of the City of Manassas Fire and Rescue Department raised their right hands as Mayor Harry J. Parrish II administered the Oath of Office at a ceremony held on Monday November 14, 2011 during the City Council meeting.

The seventh member was unable to attend the ceremony and will take the Oath at a later date.

As family, friends, and co-workers looked on, Chief Brett R. Bowman read a short biography about each member and introduced them to the City Council.

The newly promoted firefighters are:

Battalion Chief Kevin Franzello:
Began his career in the fire and rescue service in 2000 with the City of Manassas and progressed through the ranks from Firefighter to Lieutenant to Acting Captain and is now one of the first two Battalion Chiefs in the Department.

Battalion Chief Todd Lupton:
Began his career in the fire and rescue service in Warren County, Virginia.  For the past eleven years, he worked for the City of Manassas Park Fire and Rescue Department as a Deputy Chief and Acting Fire Chief.  He was hired by the City of Manassas in 2011 as one of the two new Battalion Chiefs.

Lieutenant Joseph Rose:
Began his career in the fire and rescue service as a volunteer firefighter with Prince William County and then became a volunteer firefighter with the Manassas Volunteer Fire Company in 2005.  He was a Firefighter for the Department of Defense until 2008 when he was hired by the City of Manassas.

Fire Rescue Master Technician Justin Jenkins:
Began his career in the fire and rescue service as a junior volunteer firefighter for the Catlett Volunteer Fire Company in 2001.  In 2006, he was employed by the Caroline County Fire and Rescue Department and was hired by the City of Manassas in 2008.

Fire Rescue Master Technician Mike Nazionale:
Began his fire and rescue career as a junior volunteer member of the Occoquan Woodbridge Lorton Volunteer Fire Department where he is still an active volunteer member.  He was also employed as a firefighter for the City of Manassas Park and the Fire Department of the City of New York.  In 2008, he returned to Virginia and was hired by the City of Manassas. 

Fire Rescue Master Technician William Smith:
Began his fire and rescue career as a volunteer firefighter in the Great Falls Volunteer Fire Department in Fairfax County and served as its President.  He was hired by the City of Manassas in 2008. 

Firefighter Medic Nichole Collins:
Began her career in the fire and rescue service as a Fire Explorer and has been a volunteer Firefighter in Prince William County for nine years.  She was hired by the City of Manassas in 2008.

A new partnership has been formed between the University of California San Diego, CAL FIRE, and San Diego County that is helping CAL FIRE/San Diego County FIre Authority to monitor the rural areas of San Diego, California for wildfires. The project, known as FireSite, is using webcams to show firefighters, Incident Commanders and dispatchers a real time, 360 degree view of areas that were previously difficult to view.
