Cleveland National Forest Fire Danger Level Very High

Effective Friday September 3, 2010 at 6:00 a.m., the Cleveland National Forest will raise the Fire Danger Level to VERY HIGH.  Forest use restrictions under the very high level will be implemented at that time.  Forest visitors can see what activities are allowed, and what restrictions are in place by visiting to the Forest website at www.fs.fed.us/r5/cleveland, calling their nearest Ranger District Office, or calling the Fire Danger Hotline at 619-593-2183.

In addition to campfire restrictions, smoking is allowed only in enclosed vehicles and in developed recreation sites.  Spark arrestors are required for all off-highway vehicles and all internal combustion engine equipment should be checked to make sure they are in proper working order.  Certain activities contained in special use authorizations such as welding, grinding, cutting, and the use of explosives may be suspended or restricted.

Fire danger levels are subject to change due to weather conditions and fire activity on the forest.  Forest use restrictions protect the public and natural resources, and visitors must use care and caution when visiting the Forest.

Fireworks are never allowed on the Cleveland National Forest.  Discharging a firearm with steel core, armor piercing or tracer ammunition is also not allowed at any time on the Forest.

Allowable Activities and Restrictions by District:

Descanso Ranger District, Alpine, CA (619-445-6235):
Wood and charcoal fires are only allowed in identified developed campgrounds and developed picnic areas within designated fire rings.  Identified campground and picnic areas are:  Laguna Campground, El Prado Group site, Burnt Rancheria Campground, Horse Heaven Group Site, and Wooded Hill Group Site.  
Gas, liquid, and jelly petroleum fueled stoves are allowed in developed campgrounds, and developed picnic areas.  
Gas, liquid, and jelly petroleum fueled stoves are NOT allowed in remote camping areas on the Descanso Ranger District.

Palomar Ranger District, Ramona, CA (760-788-0250):
Wood and charcoal fires are only allowed in identified developed campgrounds and developed picnic areas within designated fire rings.  Identified campground and picnic areas are: Oak Grove Campground, Observatory Campground, Fry Creek Campground and the Crestline Group Site.
The Orosco Ridge shooting areas is closed.
Gas, liquid, and jelly petroleum fueled stoves are allowed in developed campgrounds, and developed picnic areas.
Gas, liquid, and jelly petroleum fueled stoves are NOT allowed in remote camping areas on the Palomar Ranger District including the Agua Tibia Wilderness.  

Trabuco Ranger District, Corona, CA (951-736-1811):
Wood and charcoal fires are only allowed in identified developed campgrounds and developed picnic areas within designated fire rings.  Identified campground and picnic areas are: El Cariso Campground, El Cariso Picnic Area, the California Wildland Firefighter Memorial Picnic Area, Blue Jay Campground, Falcon Group Site, and Upper San Juan Campground.
Gas, liquid, and jelly petroleum fueled stoves are allowed in developed campgrounds, and developed picnic areas.
Gas, liquid, and jelly petroleum fueled stoves are NOT allowed in for remote camping areas within the San Mateo Canyon Wilderness on the Trabuco Ranger District.
