The Cleveland National Forest will lower its Fire Use Restrictions on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 from VERY HIGH to HIGH effective at 6:00 a.m.  Most campgrounds will remain open.  Under HIGH Fire Use Restrictions, campfires are allowed in developed campgrounds and developed picnic areas in designated fire rings.

In addition to checking the Fire Use Restrictions, visitors should check the "current conditions" on the national forest website to see if there are any other closures.  Under "current conditions," road and campground closures, as well as any other information are listed.  Visitors are encouraged to check before they go!  For a recorded message please call 619-593-2183 or for online information go to www.fs.fed.us/r5/cleveland.

"We appreciate the public's cooperation.  Fire use restrictions are subject to change with weather and fire activity," said Will Metz, Cleveland National Forest, Forest Supervisor.  "Visitors should always use care and caution when visiting the Cleveland National Forest."

Regardless of Fire Use Restriction level, some activities are NEVER allowed on the Cleveland National Forest.  Fireworks, discharging a firearm with steel core, armor piercing or tracer ammunition are NEVER allowed on the national forest.  Open fires are NEVER allowed outside of designated fire rings in developed campgrounds and developed picnic areas.   Please check with the other southern California national forests to determine what current fire restrictions are in place.

Check before you go for updated information.
