Santa Cruz Fire Department, along with assistance from Scotts Valley Fire Dept., responded to a report of a working structure fire at 106 Alta Ave at 2:58 P.M. on January 25th, 2012. First fire engine on the scene reported smoke coming from the second story windows.

Firefighters gained access to the second story of the home to find a clothes dryer on fire being held in check by the residential fire sprinkler system. Firefighters quickly shut down the system and extinguished the remaining flames.

Firefighters, using water proof salvage covers, covered belongings on the first floor to prevent water damage to the occupant's belongings. Firefighters on the second story used water removal equipment to reduce water damage. There were no injuries reported to either the occupants or firefighters on the scene.

Cause of the fire was due to excess buildup of lint in the dryer's lint trap. P G & E was also requested to the scene to assist with securing of the utilities.
