The Four Mile Canyon Fire has burned approximately 7,100 acres near Boulder, Colorado. The fire is being managed by the Rocky Mountain Type II Incident Management Team with more than 200 firefighters on scene along with three Type 1 hotshot crews, five helicopters, five heavy air tankers and other resources that continue to arrive on scene, according to InciWeb.

Many structures have been lost with many more remain threatened. According to InciWeb, there are approximately 3,500 residents in 20 subdivisions under mandatory evacuation. Communities impacted by the fire, that began Monday, include Four Mile Canyon, Sunshine Canyon, Gold Hill, Sugarloaf, Pinebrook Hills and Boulder Heights.

Temperatures in the area are cooler but the fire continues to grow, burning in difficult terrain with heavy fuel that includes Ponderosa pine, grass and many Douglas Fir tress that have been killed or are down because of bark beetles. According to InciWeb, structure protection and damage assessment will continue. On remote sections of the fire, crews will continue with line construction.

Tonight at 7:30 p.m., officials will host a public meeting at the Coors Event Center at the CU Boulder Campus, according to InciWeb.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
