Colorado Four Mile Canyon Fire Destroys Multiple Structures
The Four Mile Canyon Fire continues to burn in the rugged steep terrain west and northwest of the Boulder City limits. The wildfire began on September 6, 2010 in the Emerson Gulch section of Four Mile Canyon, and has burned a total of 3,500 acres as of Wednesday morning, according to the US Forest Service. Multiple buildings have been destroyed by the fire and numerous others are threatened. Over 3,500 people in the communities of Four Mile Canyon, Sunshine Canyon, Gold Hill, Sugarloaf, Pinebrook Hills, and Boulder Heights are under a mandatory evacuation. According to the US Forest Service, 175 firefighters are battling this fire with the assistance of three Type 1 Hotshot crews. Aerial resources have also been involved in fighting the fire. The Rocky Mountain Type II Incident Management Team is working with the Boulder County Type 3 Incident Management Team as Incident Commanders. Weather reports indicate that firefighters will be working with cooler temperatures on Wednesday with wind speeds of 8 to 12 mph. Author:Karen Batista - Fire Department Network News
