The Canyon Fire that began on Sunday, September 12 west of Lake Isabella, California has grown both in size and cost. The fire has consumed 8,149 acres and so far, the cost to fight this blaze is up to $4.5 million, according to InciWeb.

Since yesterday, progress has been made on containment of the fire. It is now 65 percent contained with full containment expected Sunday.

Air support continues to play a key role with 11 air tankers and ten helicopters assigned to the fire, according to the Kern County Fire Department (KCFD). There are currently 1,565 firefighting personnel from the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), the KCFD and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) on scene working under the Southern Central Sierra Incident Management Team.

Today, crews will continue to work on line construction, mop up and structure protection with 250 structures still threatened. Evacuations continue in the Myers Canyon area, Rocky Road and the community of Havilah.
