Cove Fire Near Lake Isabella Now 65 Percent Contained
A fire burning since Friday near Lake Isabella, California is now 65% contained and the threat to people and property has passed, according to a news release from the Kern County Fire Department (KCFD). The wind driven Cove Fire forced thousands from their homes in the area of Joughin Ranch, west of Kissack Cove. Approximately 200 firefighters from KCFD, CAL FIRE and the U.S. Forest Service have been battling the blaze near Lake Isabella and are now mopping up inside the fireline. According to KCFD, there is still active fire in the Riparian Wildlife Area where heavy vegetation growth and marsh like ground cover is the predominant fuel type. Weather has been cooler Sunday, but strong gusts of wind persist throughout the day. Crews are still continuing with firefighting activity to increase containment.
