Dallas Fire-Rescue Responds to Unknown Containers in Home

At 10:37 a.m. on November 10, 2011, the U.S. Marshal's Office called our Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) team out to address a number of containers (60-100), with unidentifiable liquids inside, which they found while serving a warrant at a home at 6102 Swiss Avenue.

The containers were located in three different areas of the home. The garage and a small shed behind the home contained chemicals that Hazmat determined to be used for photo/image processing. In the basement, there were other chemicals that were used to make vitamins and other nutritional supplements.

Hazmat identified two containers in the basement from which the contents had spilled. After cleaning up those chemicals, they noticed that the remaining containers, which were still in tact, were well advanced in age. They did not want to take a chance at compromising the containers while moving them, so they called for a private environmental clean-up company to come out and finish the job.

The chemicals themselves presented no hazard to the surrounding environment; therefore no evacuations were necessary and no injuries were reported.

Any follow-up questions should be directed to the U.S. Marshals Office, as they are the agency that has contracted the private clean-up company.
