Comedian and actor David Spade recently hosted a Firefighter Night of Comedy at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, California to thank the firefighters who tirelessly fought the California wildfires. Spade headlined the evening of entertainment, which also featured some of his friends, including Todd Glass, Colin Quinn, and Fred Wolf. "It was just non-stop," David says of the firefighters. "They're doing these shifts and sleep on the ground and get up and go again....I just knew I could never do that…and I wanted to help out a little bit, so I thought of maybe giving some money or doing a show for them and making money. But then I thought it would be more fun to do a show and give them a night off. I just thought the idea of working all summer, come out, have a drink, have some fun." In addition to performing for the firefighters and their guests, Spade personally donated $100,000 to the Los Angeles and Ventura County firefighters in thanks for all that they do. David Spade promoted his show on talk shows that included Ellen and The Bonnie Hunt Show. He says he simply invited all firefightersfrom any fire department in the United States to come to the show with a guest. The first 365 firefighters who RSVP'd were given two free tickets to the performance. The firefighters who attended all praised David for his show and thanked him for his contribution. "What a generous soul he is. The man made a generous contribution to the Ventura County Firefighters. We love him and we'll have him back any time," says Paul, a Santa Monica Fire Department firefighter. Brandon Silverman of the Los Angeles Fire Department says, "There's always some kind of thing to kind of thank us. This is one of the nicer things that I've come across actually. It's real generous of him. It's a really nice thing for him to do." The show was successful and Spade said he would consider the possibility of doing another one for firefighters in the future.
