Des Plaines Fire Department Receives Grant From Illinois American Water
The Des Plaines Fire Department was the recent recipient of a $1,500 grant from Illinois American Water, Woodridge, IL. With the grant funds, the Fire Department will purchase an iPad system and software that will enable Fire Prevention Bureau personnel to utilize real-time data entry during building inspections. The new system will streamline inspections and prevent the need for redundant data entry, making fire prevention processes quicker, more concise and thorough.

Fire Prevention Division Secretary Mary Gouskos was responsible for the compilation of data and preparation of the grant application. Recognizing an opportunity for the Fire Prevention Bureau to upgrade technology and operations, Gouskos initiated the grant from Illinois American Water on behalf of the Des Plaines Fire Department. This is the first time the Des Plaines Fire Department has been awarded a grant from Illinois American Water.

The company owns and operates water and wastewater systems in communities across the United States, and prides itself on working in partnerships with local communities. Illinois American Water personnel recently made a visit to Des Plaines City Hall to present the grant to the Des Plaines Fire Department.

"We feel extremely fortunate to be the recipients of this $1,500 grant, which will be used to upgrade inspection operations. Partnerships such as this benefit our entire community, and we appreciate Illinois American Water's generosity," Chief Alan Wax said.
