The single-family home is located at 3708 Prosperity Avenue. Firefighters encountered smoke and fire inside the home and carport of the two-story upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and extinguished the fire in approximately 10 minutes.

The occupants were not at home when the fire broke, however, arrived shortly after the fire started. One of the occupants attempted to rescue the family dog, but was unable to because of the heavy smoke conditions throughout the home. The dog perished in the fire.

The occupant was treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries. Two occupants have been displaced. Red Cross support was not necessary. There were no other injuries. Damage is estimated at $100,000.

According to officer-in-charge, the fire was accidental. An electrical strip containing Christmas lights near a Christmas tree caused the fire.
