The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) and Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY) have always been closely affiliated. Both associations have helped volunteer firefighters on a state and national level.  As part of their commitment to firefighters, FASNY and NVFC have formed a partnership that allows members of the National Volunteer Fire Council across the country to open accounts with the FASNY Federal Credit Union.

According to the FASNY Federal Credit Union website, FASNY's Credit Union is chartered to serve the financial needs of members, immediate family members and employees of the Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY) and the Firemen's Home, and volunteer organizations such as fire departments, districts, fire companies, EMS and ambulance squads.

FASNY's Federal Credit Union provides not only mortgage services, but also loans including auto loans, signature loans and fixed-rate home equity loans, according to Todd Stevens, Chief Operating Officer of the FASNY Federal Credit Union. They also offer certificates of deposits, savings and checking accounts. ATM and branch services are both available through shared branching.

"What makes this partnership so dramatically different than what other institutions can do is that we were already in the shared branching network, a network of different credit unions throughout the country, that members can go into as if they're walking into a branch of our own. To find a shared branch or to find an ATM, you'd simply go onto our website, go to the shared branching link and just put in your zip code and locations will pop up. You can go to any ATM and we would reimburse any sur charges up to a limit of $2 per transaction," explains John Tucker, President of FASNY. Other online services include an Internet Teller, Bill Pay System, and online loan applications.

Executive Director of the NVFC and a long-time personal member of the FASNY Credit Union, Heather Schaffer, claims that the credit union is a "nice benefit in these challenging economic times."

For members to open an account with the credit union, there is no fee, just a minimum deposit of $5 and a savings account. NVFC members can open an account by visiting the FASNY Credit Union website, www.fasnycu.com, and clicking on "Membership Application."
