For the second year in a row, firefighters from the FDNY battled Ontario firefighters in a friendly game of Ice Hockey, appropriately titled "Fire on Ice". The event was a fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and drew thousands of spectators to the Citizen's Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California. Tickets for the event were $10.00 with $4.00 going to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Between the hockey game and the chili cook-off held after the game, over $15,000 was raised for the MDA. Those who attended "Fire on Ice" were also given admission to the Ontario Reign hockey game that evening. Prior to the game, members of both teams spent time together enjoying California's warm weather and beautiful sights. Brett Brewster, an Account Executive with the Citizen's Business Bank Arena explains, "We fly the New York guys out, put them up for a week in hotels. We had golf for them yesterday. We bring them out to the restaurants. We have an after-party for them tonight. It's a really fun week for those guys, especially since they're used to the cold right now." John Macnamara of the FDNY conveys his team's gratitude saying, "It's nice that they have us out here. We have a good time. They take good care of us, have a lot of fun, and more importantly we raise some money for charity, so it's a win for everybody." The FDNY Team won for the second year, beating the Ontario Firefighters 7-4. Although it was a hockey game, there was no fighting, as one fan, Laura Fredette observed, "Did you notice it was the New York guy who picked up the Ontario guy who bit the ice? It's because they're firefighters. They care about each other." Macnamara jokingly explained it saying, "We try to take it easy. They got a few old guys on the other team so we didn't want to hurt them too bad."
