Fire Safe Council Announces 2011 Grants Clearinghouse Decisions

The California Fire Safe Council has announced preliminary funding decisions for Grants Clearinghouse 2010 - 2011. These decisions were based on funding and the next step in the Clearinghouse, according to the Fire Safe Council.

There were 316 grant proposals submitted this year requesting a total of $40 million. Preliminary decisions have targeted 72 projects totaling $7.3 million for potential funding.

Preliminary funding for these grants has been announced:
  • Bureau of Land Management Community Assistance Grants
  • National Park Service Community Assistance Grants
  • Forest Service State Fire Assistance Grants - 25% Cost Share
  • Forest Service State Fire Assistance Grants - 50% Cost Share

A new partnership has been formed between the University of California San Diego, CAL FIRE, and San Diego County that is helping CAL FIRE/San Diego County FIre Authority to monitor the rural areas of San Diego, California for wildfires. The project, known as FireSite, is using webcams to show firefighters, Incident Commanders and dispatchers a real time, 360 degree view of areas that were previously difficult to view.
