Fire Sprinkler Extinguishes Fairfax County Apartment Blaze

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to an apartment fire, Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at approximately 1:30 a.m. in the Centreville area of Fairfax County, Virginia. The garden apartment is located at 5815 Post Corners Trail.

Firefighters reported light smoke on the top floor of the three-story apartment upon arrival. Firefighters discovered water coming from the attic area from an activated sprinkler head during their investigation.

The sprinkler was primarily responsible for extinguishing the fire. Firefighters checked the attic for fire extension on the apartment of fire origin and adjacent units. Damage was minor; however, one occupant has been displaced.

Red Cross assistance was declined. There were no injuries. Damage estimate was minor.    

The fire is under investigation.
