Mississippi Firefighter Dies After Extinguishing Fire
Volunteer firefighter Joshua Wilkes, died on February 13, 2011 after returning from a fire. The 26 year old firefighter with the Unity Fire Department of Guntown, Mississippi had responded to an afternoon outdoor fire and was returning to his station with another firefighter, according to the U.S. Fire Administration. The pair decided to stop at the Woco-Saltillo gas station in Saltillo, Mississippi to refill their fire truck with fuel. Wilkes entered the gas station's convenience store to purchase a beverage, and collapsed and perished at approximately 4 p.m. The cause of Firefighter Wilkes' death is under investigation, and an autopsy is scheduled to be performed.
