Florida Apartment Fire Forces 3 Famililies to Relocate

Three families were displaced Tuesday, November 8, 2011 evening after a fire broke out at Riverchase Apartments in Temple Terrace, fire officials said.

No one was injured in the blaze, which occurred shortly before 7 p.m. at 6424 W. Riverchase Drive.

Officials believe the fire started on a second-floor screened patio. Fire units reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the apartment as they arrived.

The Temple Terrace Fire Department received mutual aid from Tampa Fire Rescue, and the fire was extinguished with 10 minutes, said Temple Terrace Assistant Fire Chief Ian Kemp.

Two adjacent apartments also were damaged, Kemp said. Damages to the apartment complex were estimated at around $250,000.

The American Red Cross assisted in relocating the families whose apartments were damaged. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Temple Terrace Fire Marshall.
