Crews with Forest Grove Fire & Rescue (FGF&R) responded to a grass fire Thursday afternoon on the Joint Water Commission's water treatment plant in the 4400 block of SW Fern Hill Road about a mile south of Forest Grove, Oregon. Firefighters found a slow moving fire burning in four locations, totaling about a half acre, according to a news release from FGF&R.

It took six firefighters about 10 minutes to stop the fire from spreading but they remained on scene for 30 minutes extinguishing hot spots, according to the department.

According to FGF&R, a contractor was mowing grass and the mower appears to be the cause of the fire. No structures or the water treatment area were threatened by the fire.

FGF&R wants everyone to be fire safe during summer months, especially on days with hotter temperatures. Make sure machinery used near vegetation is in good working order.

A reminder from FGF&R, there is a ban on burning in effect for all of Washington County, Oregon.
