18-Karat Gold Accented Turnout Coat Commemorates Fallen Firefighters of 9/11
Bellflower, California

September 4, 2010

In honor of the fallen heroes of 9/11 Designer Mychael Darwin—best known for creating some of the world's most luxurious, intricate and artistic leather coats has created an all-leather and gold embellished fireman's turnout coat known as the "America's Bravest 18-Karat Gold Memorial Turnout Coat." This one-of-a-kind replica of a fireman's traditional protective turnout jacket features all 343 names of the fallen firefighters of 9/11 who gave their lives in the rescue efforts at Ground Zero.  Each name is printed on a silk American flag that lines the interior of the jacket.  The turnout coat is made from 100% premium butter-soft lambskin black leather and is accented by custom, handcrafted 18-karat gold buttons and clasps unique to a fireman's turnout coat.

"My inspiration for designing this commemorative jacket was to pay homage to the heroic actions and bravery of all the firefighters on 9/11, and to the firefighters that are the first responders on the front lines everyday in emergency situations," said designer Mychael Darwin.  The men and women who dedicate their lives to this service are admirable and I hope that their bravery is captured in this special jacket."

The impeccably hand-tailored America's Bravest 18-Karat Memorial Turnout Coat by Mychael Darwin is valued at $100K and will be on display for firefighter enthusiasts and community supporters at this exclusive preview event, before the jacket begins its tour to other firefighter museums throughout the country.

"We are honored that Mychael Darwin has selected our facility as a stopping point for the America's Bravest Memorial Turnout Coat along the way to its tour to other Firefighter heritage facilities," said Captain Paul Schneider, President of the County of Los Angeles Fire Museum.  "It truly is a work of art and is a unique display and symbol of what we do to help bring safety to Americans."

This commemorative and artistic jacket which tributes the fallen firefighters of 9/11 will be on display for one-day only at the County of Los Angeles Fire Museum's Open House & Classic Car Show in the city of Bellflower on Saturday, September 11 from Noon to 9 pm.

More than five thousand people are expected to attend the Museum's annual Open House and Classic Car Show event for family fun, and a look at vintage cars and fire trucks, as well as a collection of other firefighter memorabilia.  The museum will be open to the public and a donation of just $5 is requested for admission to this family-friendly event.
