A 30-year-old Kapa'a woman sustained non-life threatening injuries after crashing into a utility pole in Kapa'a Tuesday afternoon. She was taken to Wilcox Hospital for treatment.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The woman was travelling alone heading east on Laipo Rd. at around 12:46 pm when the crash occurred.

The downed pole with live wires blocked both the east and west bound lanes of Laipo Rd. causing a small grass fire near the crash scene.

Fire fighters from the Kaiakea station responded to the fire and put it out after the wires were de-energized by Kaua'i Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) personnel.

Following the crash, Laipo Rd., between the Kula Mau'u St. junction and the Lepo Rd. junction, was closed for several hours while Hawaiian Telcom, KIUC, and Oceanic Time Warner Cable  personnel worked to remove the hazards from the roadway.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
