Georgia Firefighters Extinguish Five Lightning Caused Fires
Firefighters in Henry County, Georgia responded to five fires caused by lightning strikes over the weekend. Firefighters with the Henry County Fire Department responded to two fires that caused significant damage, Capt. Sabrina Puckett said in a press release from the department.

Crews made a quick offensive attack on one of the fires, in Stockbridge, Georgia but it spread rapidly, according to Puckett. The other fire in Locust Grove, Georgia was stopped quickly by firefighters.

"Fortunately, there were no injuries reported at either fire," said Puckett.

In the last six months, it is estimated that 15 lightning strikes have caused fire to structures in Henry County along with one fatality, according to Puckett.  In the United States there have been 24 lightning strike fatalities in 17 states with the largest number, three, being in Georgia, according to the National Weather Service.

"Henry County Fire Department would like to remind citizens to 'Go Indoors, When Thunder Roars,' and have a fire escape plan," stressed Puckett.
