Highgrove Man Arrested on Arson and Burglary Charges

Riverside County Fire Department dispatchers received several reports just before 6:30 a.m. on November 19, 2011 of an apartment on fire at 427 Devener Street in Highgrove.

CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters, along with assistance by San Bernardino County Fire Department arrived to find a second-story unit of a four-plex well involved.    Quick action by firefighters contained the fire just before 7:00 a.m.

CAL FIRE Peace Officers arrested 28-year old Danny Cruz, who admitted to starting the fire that displaced three families. Cruz was transported to Robert Presley Detention Center, where he was booked on two counts on Penal Code 451 (b), arson to an inhabited structure and one count on Penal Code 459, burglary.

The Riverside County District Attorney's Office will be handling the case.

A new partnership has been formed between the University of California San Diego, CAL FIRE, and San Diego County that is helping CAL FIRE/San Diego County FIre Authority to monitor the rural areas of San Diego, California for wildfires. The project, known as FireSite, is using webcams to show firefighters, Incident Commanders and dispatchers a real time, 360 degree view of areas that were previously difficult to view.
