Spring fire training at the Salmon-Challis National Forest was wrapped up with an All Forest Employee Fire Season Preparation Day at the BLM Cottonwood Campground north of Challis, Idaho, according to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation (WFF).

More than 100 employees listened to Forest  Supervisor Frank Guzman speak about fire management and decision making,  roles and responsibilities, wilderness values and heritage resources. There was also a presentation given by Regional Training Officer on the new process for Fire Hire.

The emphasis of the day revolved around the objective of increasing safety awareness and efficiency by building a cohesive Central Idaho fire zone. According to the WFF, competitive hose lay exercises were used for training and team building. Crews had to lay 400 feet of hose and set up established pumps to draft water from the Salmon River.

A barbecue was funded by the Salmon-Challis United Benefits Association (SCUBA). The event raised $745.25 that was donated to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.
