Kapa'a, Hawaii Man Arrested for First Degree Arson

A Kapa'a man was arrested for first degree arson on Oct. 24, 2011 after allegedly setting fire that afternoon to his pick-up truck, which caused extensive damage to the truck.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:19 pm at Kapa‘a Beach Park.Samuiela Moala, age 41, the owner of the pickup truck, was arrested close to the scene.

No injuries were reported, but a motorist parked a few feet away was forced to reverse his vehicle away from the burning truck.

Moala remains in police custody unable to post bail, which was set at $20,000.

A new partnership has been formed between the University of California San Diego, CAL FIRE, and San Diego County that is helping CAL FIRE/San Diego County FIre Authority to monitor the rural areas of San Diego, California for wildfires.
