Kapahi, Kauai Man Escapes Injury After His Bedroom Caught Fire

A man escaped injury when his bedroom caught fire early on December 1, 2011 on Kapahi Road in Kauai.

Police Dispatch received a call at 3:44a.m. when a fire broke out in the upstairs bedroom of a two-story home.

Firefighters were on scene by 3:54a.m., but residents had already extinguished the blaze using a garden hose.

The fire was contained to the upstairs bedroom, causing roughly $25,000 in damages to the structure and its contents.

Engines 2 and 8, Trucks 2 and 8, and Kaua'i police responded to the incident. Residents are being assisted by the Kaua'i Red Cross. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A new partnership has been formed between the University of California San Diego, CAL FIRE, and San Diego County that is helping CAL FIRE/San Diego County FIre Authority to monitor the rural areas of San Diego, California for wildfires. The project, known as FireSite, is using webcams to show firefighters, Incident Commanders and dispatchers a real time, 360 degree view of areas that were previously difficult to view.
