Keeping Guests Safe
The Jekyll Island Fire and EMS Department is enjoying new equipment that will enhance their primarily services for keeping guests safe on Jekyll Island. The department has recently acquired a new Honda Big Red to serve as a Beach & Bike Trail Rescue Vehicle.  In December, Shelley and John Allison of Jekyll Island and founders of Suzie's Friends, a no-kill shelter in Homerville, Georgia presented the new rescue vehicle to the Jekyll Island Authority board at their monthly meeting. The Jekyll Island Fire and EMS came to Ms. Allison's aid while she was suffering from a heart attack on a Jekyll Island beach in 2009. The Department will use the rescue vehicle to quickly reach remote locations on the island where other EMS vehicles are not capable of traveling.

We at the Jekyll Island Fire and EMS are extremely grateful for this equipment and wish Mrs. Allison a speedy recovery.  It's people like the Allison's that brings to life the importance of what we all do everyday!
