Wrightwood, California

This summer, Keith Coffey, a veteran Rialto Fire Department firefighter,  was paralyzed from the neck down in an accident while practicing for his Fire and Police Motocross Team.  Rallying to his side, his friends and family recently held a benefit concert to raise money to help with his medical needs.

Keith says it is good to be home in Wrightwood again, surrounded by friends, family, and coworkers. "Well, some of these guys I haven't seen in 20 years, since high school....So that's pretty cool. It's almost like a high school and family reunion and a work reunion. Some of these guys I haven't seen since County....So it's pretty impressive, actually."

Keith's children, Jessica and Wesley, admit that it has been a difficult two months while their dad has been in the hospital. But they say their dad has been in good spirits throughout. "It was really hard in the beginning," says Jessica. "Like, adjusting to the fact that he's never going to be the same. But he's still going to be my dad. But it's just going to look different and it'll be hard, but it'll all be good."

Keith has been working hard in physical therapy to reach his goal of going home, something his children are also ready for.  The money raised from the concert will be used to retrofit Keith's home to make it wheelchair accessible and for the purchase of a special van for Keith.

Keith's family and friends have also set up a website, www.coffeystrong.com, to help raise money to help Keith with his medical needs.  Visitors to the site can purchase t-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, and coffee, the proceeds of which go to Keith's medical fund, as well as make secure online donations.
