Kentucky Division of Forestry Firefighter/Forest Ranger Technician Donald R. Lam passed away on February 17, 2011 as a result of injuries sustained in a September 7, 2010 fire.

Firefighter Lam was working at the Scotts Chapel Road Fire, a 12-acre wildfire in Livingston, Kentucky, when he fell victim to the accident that ultimately claimed his life.  According to the U.S. Fire Administration, Lam was clearing a break for containment at the base of a bluff when a burning tree truck rolled off of the bluff and struck him from behind, knocking him unconscious and causing a serious head injury.  He also suffered a fractured hip, bruises and second degree burns on his legs.

Since then Donald Lam has been hospitalized and listed in serious condition, losing the battle for his life yesterday.  The 58 year old wildland firefighter had served 12 years with the Kentucky Division of Forestry.

According to the Associated Press, the Scotts Chapel Road Fire began with a brush pile that contractors had set on fire.  Charges in the case are pending.

Funeral arrangements for Firefighter Lam have not been announced, however, memorial contributions can be sent to:  First Southern National Bank, Friends of Don Lam Account, P.O. Box 379, Princeton, KY  42445.
