Kern County Fire Department Responds to Oil Field Fire
Firefighters with the Kern County Fire Department (KCFD) responded to a possible well on fire in an oil field in Elk Hills, California early Monday morning. Crews with the Kern County Hazardous Materials Team and Environmental Health also responded, according to a news release from the KCFD. On arrival, crews found two 500 barrel tanks containing well operation fluids on fire along with a two inch natural gas line leaking nearby, but not on fire, according to KCFD. Firefighters were able to extinguish both tanks, cool them and inject foam to suppress any flammable vapors. Firefighters then manually shut down the gas line and performed clean-up. Two people received minor injuries but both refused transport. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Author:Barbara Brooks - Fire Department Network News
