Wildfire Near Kernville, California Forces Hundreds to Evacuate
A wildfire broke out Monday afternoon near the town of Kernville, California that prompted the evacuation of 1,800 residents, according to KNBC-TV. The community of Riverkern is under mandatory evacuation orders as is an area near Kernville, according to KERO-TV.

More than 2,000 acres have burned in what is now known as the Bull Fire. The fire began about 1:45 p.m. and is burning in rugged terrain on both sides of the Kern River on the southern edge of the Sequoia National Forest, according to Channel 4.

About 500 firefighters from the Kern County Fire Department, Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service are on scene. There are also seven air tankers and seven water dropping helicopters fighting the fire.

An evacuation center has been set up at the Community Senior Center in Lake Isabella, California about 15 miles from the fire, according to KGET-TV.

There have been no official reports of injuries or structures burned at this time.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
