20 Acres Burned in Hawaiian Brush Fire

KŌLOA, Kauai

Roughly 20 acres of brush burned Thursday afternoon in a fire that broke out in Kōloa in the vicinity of the Ala Kino'iki and Weliweli Rd. junction.

There was no immediate threat to any structures.

No one was injured in the fire.

Engine 4, Brush Truck 4, Engine 3, Rescue 3, Engine 5, Truck 6, two training captains, a battalion chief along with Air 1 and several patrol officers responded to the 1:20 pm alarm.

In addition, assistance was provided by a water tanker and an excavator operator with Wailani Enterprises, two water tanker operators with Earthworks Pacific Inc., and a backhoe operator with ITC Water Management.

The fire was deemed under control at approximately 3:31 pm and fully extinguished at 6:05 pm.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.

In light of the recent brushfires, fire officials are urging the public to exercise caution. 

Some of the fire prevention tips offered by the Kaua'i Fire Department include:

  • Don't throw lighted cigarettes out of a car window.
  • Don't park vehicles on dry grass.
  • Trim the trees, bushes and grass on your property on a regular basis.
